THE PRIMARY PROGRAMME (GRADE 1 TO 5)

In Primary (Grade 1 to 5), we have been able to choose curricula that best suit the learning needs of our students. The curricula combine the best of local and international content and ideas.

English Literacy

We use The National Curriculum in England (Key Stages 1 and 2) for English Literacy. The National Curriculum in England aims to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping students with a strong command of the spoken and written word to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment. The Curriculum is structured around the areas of Reading, Writing and Spoken Language.

Mathematics

We use the Australian Curriculum for Mathematics. The Australian Curriculum aims to be relevant and applicable to the 21st century and is structured around the interaction of three content strands and four proficiency strands

Content Strands (What is taught and learnt): Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability.

Proficiency Strands (How content is explored or developed): Understanding, Fluency, Problem-solving and Reasoning. The proficiency strands ensure that student learning and independence are at the centre of the curriculum. They also enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematical strategies to efficiently make informed decisions and solve problems.

Integrated Studies

We use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for Integrated Studies. IPC is structured around a coherent set of targets in Science, Geography, History, Art and ICT, which is intended to nurture a spirit of global citizenship and independent learning. IPC keeps students excited by learning through theme-based units with inquiry-based activities to gain knowledge, skills and understanding. Students become better inquirers, communicators and co-operators.

 Arabic Literacy

We use the Jordanian National Curriculum for Arabic, Religion and Social Studies in Arabic (SSA). The Arabic Language Ministry of Education curriculum is supported by our own Reading and writing program. Comprehension is extended through Guided Reading where students are introduced to text analysis. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Grade 1-5 students are taught six lessons of Arabic in which the students are introduced to reading, writing, listening & speaking skills. Students also have one lesson of Social Studies in Arabic and two lessons of Religion each week. Pre-K, KG1 and KG2 students receive six lessons of Arabic each week. The lessons are taught in the classroom by specialist teachers supported by the class Teaching Assistants.

Social-Emotional Learning Second Step

To ensure that the school environment is supportive and safe to all students both physically and psychologically, the primary school has two qualified and experienced counsellors. Accessing the services of the counsellors is open for all students, parents and teachers from Pre-K through to grade 5.

The primary school is always looking for ways to enhance the social and emotional aspect of students' life therefore we have adopted the  Second Step curriculum. This is  a universal, classroom-based, social-emotional learning curriculum for KG1 to Grade 5 that nurtures children’s social-emotional competence and foundational learning skills. The lessons enable students to learn skills to be successful learners, develop empathy and compassion, understand and manage their feelings and solve conflicts in a peaceful and constructive manner. The programme is monitored by our school counsellors who ensures that the curriculum is delivered in an effective way and impacts the social, emotional and physical development of students. 

After School Activities

We pride ourselves on being able to offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities for G1 - G5. Our activities are designed to enrich our students’s intellectual, social, physical, and emotional growth.  These activities are age appropriate, stimulating and relevant to  each grade level in a safe and nurturing learning environment. Activities are set for two days a week.
