Last Thursday, our Grade 10 students went to Sharhabil Bin Hassneh EcoPark to observe sustainable tourism in action, which has been a Jordanian pillar for some time. They learned about local plants and ecosystems as they hiked through the trails. They had the opportunity to see sustainable development models in practice, such as solar-powered water heaters and electricity generators, composting, recycling and internal water purification systems. The Grade 10s came out of this experience with a greater appreciation for preserving the Jordanian landscape, and with the realization that sustainable development is a collaborative effort that must actively involve the local communities where everyone benefits.
